Once you have become a pupillage provider, the Pupillage Gateway has all the information you need to manage your pupillage, from how to use the gateway to advertise pupillages through to key deadlines you should be aware of.
You will also need to register pupillages through MyBar.

How do we register pupillages?
All pupillage registrations are done through an automated self-service system via the MyBar portal.
This allows you to start the registration process before it is sent to a pupil to complete.
When registering, you’ll need to include the following documents:
- Your Pupillage Policy Document
- Your Pupillage Training Plan
- Your Equalities Policy Document
Each pupillage provider must have a dedicated administrator who can access the MyBar portal to register pupillages. Please contact us if you have any questions or need to update your pupillage administrator’s contact details.

Requirements and expectations
During pupillage, you must train pupils to meet the requirements of the Professional Statement.
You also must meet the requirements for supervising pupils. Pupil supervisors must normally be practising barristers.
Additionally, the Bar can benefit from secondment arrangements, however a potential risk is the conflict of interest arising from casework. We expect pupillage providers to have clear policy and documentation for pupils to declare any perceived or likely conflicts of interest.
For longer secondments, we normally expect pupillage providers both to be authorised as AETOs and to agree in advance how the training and appraisal of competence will be managed during the secondment.
