BSB invites tenders for providers to deliver Public Access training

8 October 2018

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) is inviting tenders from training providers to become accredited to deliver Public Access training to barristers from January 2019 onwards.

In 2017, the BSB conducted a review of the Public Access scheme, where members of the public can instruct authorised barristers directly rather than through a solicitor or other intermediary. Barristers need to undertake training before they can do Public Access work, and the Public Access Review Report recommended that the BSB assess how well its training regime prepares barristers for this work.

Following that review of its training arrangements, the BSB has introduced a number of new training outcomes and requirements for training providers to ensure that the Public Access training remains robust, rigorous and up to date.

The BSB hopes to continue to approve a number of different training providers to deliver a range of courses. It invites both new and existing providers to demonstrate how their Public Access training matches the new requirements.

The invitation to tender opens on Monday 8 October 2018. The deadline for submissions is on Friday 23 November 2018.
