New Equality objectives for 2014-15

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has developed and adopted five new equality objectives for 2014-15.

These are:

External

  • to undertake qualitative research exploring the issue of under-representation of women at the Bar, so as to evaluate the effectiveness of the equality rules, introduced in 2012;
  • to monitor and review the number of received reports of harassment and discrimination at the Bar, and formulate recommendations for further targeted activity, if necessary; and 
  • to increase diversity data disclosure from the profession to 30%, across all protected characteristics collected.

Internal

  • To achieve 100% return of diversity monitoring forms from all current and future Board and Committee members; and
  • to improve the diversity of the BSB Board and its Committees.

The objectives were approved by the BSB at its last monthly board meeting in May.
