Are you able to influence others to ensure that what the Panel does reflects excellent equality and diversity practice?

Do you have the presence and experience to lead the Panel in recruiting new members for the Bar Standards Board who will protect and promote the public interest?

If so, you may be the next Chair of our Independent Appointments Panel or one of the other independent members on it.

The organisation

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) is the independent regulatory body for barristers in England & Wales, based in London. The BSB is responsible for setting the education, training and conduct requirements for being a barrister; handling complaints and disciplinary matters and assuring the quality of the profession.

Our Constitution requires that all appointments to the Board, including to the posts of Chair and Vice Chair of the Board, are made by an Independent Appointments Panel.  The Appointments Panel is made up of a number of ex officio appointments, plus lay people who contribute independence and knowledge of good recruitment practices.

We need lay people in these roles which means that people with legal qualifications cannot apply. Please check the further particulars for details.

Appointments will be for a period of up to three years with the possibility of renewal. The positions are remunerated at a day rate.  Details are in the further particulars.

Meetings and interviews will take place in London, but some remote working is possible during the recruitment processes you'll be carrying out.

For more information and to apply please visit the About Us section of our website www.barstandards.board.org.uk Candidates are required to provide a CV and covering letter.  If you have a disability or for any other good reason are seeking a reasonable adjustment to the recruitment process, please contact us at BSBPanel@barstandardsboard.org.uk or on 020 7611 1444 to discuss.

Closing date for applications: Tuesday 29 March

Interviews will take place in London on 13, 15 or 18 April.
