In January 2024, we introduced our revised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) templates and guidance to support barristers in planning, recording and reflecting on their professional development.
Over the past year, we have been working to understand how these updated resources are being used and how effectively they support compliance.
As part of this work, in February 2025 we launched a profession-wide survey. The survey explored three core areas:
• Awareness of the revised CPD resources
• Frequency of use across the profession
• Perceived effectiveness in supporting CPD planning and compliance
We are pleased to share the key insights in the infographic below, which summarises what we have learned from the hundreds of barristers who engaged with our evaluation.
More than 1,200 barristers took part in our CPD survey. Your input is central to how we develop and refine our guidance.
The infographic highlights what you told us, and how your responses are shaping our next steps.
Your feedback is already shaping the next phase of our work. Over the coming months, we will use these insights to further refine the guidance, improve accessibility and usability, and ensure the CPD resources continue to support barristers effectively.
Based on your feedback, we will continue to:
• keep CPD materials up to date
• ensure resources remain practical and engaging
• reflect on where further support may be needed
• improve accessibility and clarity across the guidance
