Unregistered barrister Kevin Robert Manning ordered to be disbarred.
Barrister Kevin Robert Manning was ordered to be disbarred by an independent disciplinary tribunal which concluded on 10 June 2021 following charges of professional misconduct brought by the Bar Standards Board (BSB).
The tribunal’s decision follows Mr Manning’s convictions in the Royal Court (Jersey) on a number of counts of fraudulent conversion while practising as a solicitor in Jersey in that he took money from eight curatorship accounts and a trust which he controlled to make up a deficit which had occurred in the firm’s client account. He was also convicted of failing to keep accurate client records.
The tribunal found that Mr Manning had engaged in conduct which was dishonest or otherwise discreditable to a barrister, and/or likely to diminish public confidence in the legal profession or the administration of justice or otherwise bring the legal profession into disrepute.
The tribunal also found that Mr Manning failed to report to the BSB that he had been charged with an indictable offence and convicted and that he had been the subject of disciplinary or other regulatory or enforcement action by another Approved Regulator.
Commenting on the order to disbar, a BSB spokesperson said:
“All members of the Bar have a duty to act with honesty and integrity and the tribunal’s decision to disbar Mr Manning reflects the seriousness of his offences.”
The tribunal’s decision is open to appeal.
