The Bar Standards Board systems are currently down and we are unable to access emails or any of our internal databases. This inevitably will impact upon our ability to manage work and will lead to delay in, for example, processing applications for provisional and full practising certificates as well as ordinary waivers and authorisation applications. We will update the website with more information when we can.

In the meantime, anyone needing a provisional practising certificate in their practising period of pupillage or a full practising certificate at the end of pupillage in order to undertake work, is able to take on that work pending the processing of their application.

A temporary waiver has been put in place to allow barristers in that situation to be able to practise. We are sorry for any inconvenience the disruption in our services may cause.

Candidates due to sit the Professional Ethics exam next week have already had their exams set up in Surpass, so these will not be affected. However, we will not have seen any queries sent to our inboxes since close of play on Wednesday 13 April 2022. If you have sent us a question about your exam next week, please ring and ask for the exams team on 020 7611 1444.
