Barrister John Stenhouse has been ordered to be suspended from practising for four months by an independent disciplinary tribunal, which concluded on 22 October 2026. The tribunal found proven four charges of professional misconduct brought by us.
The tribunal found that Mr Stenhouse acted without integrity and behaved in a way which could reasonably be seen by the public to undermine his integrity and/or which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession.
The charges relate to two emails sent by Mr Stenhouse to a former client between November 2023 and February 2024, which were offensive insulting and/or abusive.
Spokesperson, The Bar Standards Board said:
“Mr Stenhouse’s conduct fell below the standards expected of the profession, and the tribunal’s decision reflects the seriousness of his misconduct.”
The tribunal’s findings remain subject to appeal.
