Want to share your views on our regulatory regime for entities? Come along to one of our consultation meetings

10 July 2014

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) is seeking views on specific aspects of its proposals for regulating entities - companies or partnerships that provide advocacy, litigation, and expert legal advice services.

The specific aspects we want to hear your views on relate to plans to change the existing rules so as to introduce an initial regulatory regime for entities, in which both the entity and its non-barrister managers explicitly consent to being regulated by the BSB and bound by the BSB Handbook in a contractual relationship.

This includes powers for the BSB to take control of client files when, for example, an entity fails and the regulator must act to protect clients' interests.

We would also like your insight on proposals for the levels and minimum terms of professional indemnity insurance that entities would be required to obtain if they are regulated by the BSB.

We are holding a series of consultation meetings in which barristers, consumer organisations, and interested parties can find out more, voice their views, and their opinions can be captured by the BSB. Please see below for more information

You can also make a written submission as usual, if you want to.

The full proposals can be read here.

The consultation was launched on 10 July 2014 and will close on September 5 2014.
