The Curriculum and Assessment Strategy sets out the requirements for all three components of training for the Bar: academic, vocational and pupillage/work-based learning.
This version of this Curriculum and Assessment Strategy is complete for the academic and vocational components of training for the Bar. Any new vocational courses delivered by Authorised Education and Training Organisations (AETOs) from 2020 must adhere to this Strategy.
From 1 September 2019, any AETO delivering pupillage or work-based learning must adhere to this Strategy, and ensure pupils cover the relevant competences as outlined in the mapping at the end of this document.
Further changes to pupillage are planned. A centralised assessment in Professional Ethics will commence in 2022. A compulsory course in Negotiation Skills is planned, with the introduction date to be confirmed. More information will be added here in due course.
