If you started your vocational Bar training from 2020 onwards, or you are a Transferring Qualified Lawyer who took the Bar Transfer Test in or after August 2021 who is not exempt from the requirement, you will need to pass a BSB centralised assessment in Professional Ethics before you can complete your pupillage.

This Guide is for anyone taking this assessment in 2022. Please read Part 1 first.

Roles and responsibilities

Booking

It is your responsibility to:

  • ensure you have registered your pupillage promptly; and
  • book an exam within the specified booking window.

It is our responsibility to:

  • ensure that all eligible candidates receive a link to book an exam.

Adjustments and other arrangements

It is your responsibility to:

  • communicate our decision to you within one week of the application deadline;
  • ensure that the agreed reasonable adjustments and other arrangements are implemented for you;
  • communicate to all candidates with agreed adjustments whether they should book their exam using Scheduler (the booking portal); and
  • book an exam for any candidate where this cannot be done through Scheduler.

Test delivery (online invigilation)

It is your responsibility to:

  • perform the advised system tests ahead of the exam day to ensure your equipment and internet connection meet the required standard;
  • notify the BSB if you have not received an exam link via email 24 hours prior to the exam;
  • access the exam with time to complete the ID and room checks on exam day; and
  • have appropriate ID ready. 

It is our responsibility to:

  • ensure that an appropriate exam is set up for you in Surpass; and
  • ensure that any agreed adjustments or arrangements are in place and that the online proctor is aware of these.

Test delivery (test centre)

It is your responsibility to:

  • arrive at least thirty minutes before exam start time;
  • have appropriate ID ready; and
  • familiarise yourself with the test centre location and facilities before the exam. 

It is our responsibility to:

  • ensure that an appropriate exam is set up for you in Surpass; and
  • ensure that any agreed adjustments or arrangements are in place at your chosen test centre.

Results

It is your responsibility to:

  • ensure that the fee for a third or subsequent sit has been paid in order for your results to be visible on MyBar.
  • book a resit as promptly as possible if you have not achieved a Pass and wish to resit at the next available opportunity.

It is our responsibility to:

  • ensure results are made available to candidates via their training record on MyBar; and
  • provide examination feedback to candidates who have not achieved a Pass.


BSB Exam Requirements

In advance of the exam, ensure that you have read and understand the BSB’s exam requirements so that you do not breach these rules when you take your exam. You will be able to access an online version of the BSB Handbook via a URL. Your screen will be locked and you will not be able to access any other webpages.
