2 Feb 2026

We are recruiting four new members to the Board, including a Lay Board Member and three Barrister Members.

These appointments come at an important time for us. We are undertaking a wide-ranging Reform Programme and are finalising our five-year strategy, which will set our priorities until 2030. The legal services sector continues to evolve, with rapid technological advances changing the way services are delivered, while the need to uphold professional standards, equality, and access to justice are essential.

For the Lay Board Member, we are keen to hear from candidates with experience of higher education or professional qualification pathways leading to a licence to practise, alongside significant board-level experience or equivalent in a complex organisation.

You will bring strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and the ability to operate under public scrutiny, with a clear understanding of the distinction between governance and management.

For barrister board members we are seeking practising barristers with a strong understanding of the profession and its regulatory environment. Experience in regulatory processes is desirable, together with the ability to bring constructive challenge, professional insight and a commitment to high standards of conduct and ethics. We particularly welcome applications from the publicly funded Bar and from barristers practising outside London.

The Board is committed to reflecting the diversity of the profession we regulate and the public we serve. We welcome and actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, communities and experiences.

The roles offer renumeration of £10,000, for a time commitment of approximately two days per month.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 27 February 2026.

For further information on the roles and how to apply, please visit the individual job ads for the BSB Lay Board Member application and three BSB Board Member applications.
