The Bar Standards Board (BSB) regulates barristers and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales in the public interest.
The Regulatory Enforcement Department is responsible for regulatory investigations and, where necessary, bringing cases to disciplinary tribunal, as well as conducting any appeals that arise.
Members of the Tribunal Representation Panel (TRP):
- Advise the BSB on disciplinary tribunal, interim suspension, fitness to practise and appeal cases (including appeals against administrative sanctions).
- Represent the BSB at Tribunal hearings and appeals to the High Court and the Court of Appeal (where applicable).
Successful applicants should have no record of disciplinary findings and will be able to demonstrate the following criteria:
1. Experience
- At least 2+ years PQE in regulatory law (with a particular focus on professional disciplinary work)
- A strong track record in representing professional regulators
- Knowledge of public law and how it impacts the professional disciplinary process
- Significant experience of factually and legally complex cases (for those with 5 + years PQE)
- Handling vulnerable witnesses (for those with 5 + years PQE)

- Adaptable and flexible - with the ability to manage the volume of BSB’s requests for representation, and respond to urgent matters
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and access to justice
- Compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, such as the GDPR
- Applications are particularly sought from those with 2 – 10 years PQE but applications across all experience levels will be considered.
