Today, we have announced that Helena Suffield-Thompson and Suzi Denton have both been appointed as Independent Reviewers at the Bar Standards Board. They will provide independent assurance that our regulatory decision-making is fair, consistent, and in line with agreed procedures.
Helena qualified as a Solicitor in 1996 and was a Criminal Defence Lawyer until 2013. From 2013 to the present day, she has been a member of the judiciary and sits in three Chambers. She has also worked for other regulators, including the Health and Care Professions Council and the Parole Board, and has served as a Foster Panel Chair for both private companies and Local Authorities.
Suzi is an experienced Solicitor, having started her legal career as a Corporate Lawyer before specialising in family and fertility law. She was appointed as a Legally Qualified Chair for the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in 2022 and has recently been appointed as Chair of the Investigating Committee Panel for the Health and Care Professions Council.
