The BSB has vacancies for two external examiners at the following sites, and for the following subjects of the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) and, where relevant, the Bar Transfer Test (BTT) from September 2019:

 2 visits per site in the academic year (Birmingham, Bristol, London, Leeds and Manchester)

 

2 reports per academic year (interim and final)

2 reports per academic year (interim and final)

University of Northumbria at Newcastle, and Nottingham Trent University (vacancy is to cover both providers)

Advocacy

Criminal Litigation

Professional Ethics

Opinion Writing

ReDOC 

2 visits per site in one academic year (Northumbria and Nottingham)

 

 

2 reports per academic year (interim and final) per Provider

 

Fees are variable depending on the size of the provider/number of sites, and reasonable expenses can be claimed in line with the BSB's expenses policy. 

External examiners act on behalf of the Bar Standards Board in monitoring the quality and standards of the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) and, where relevant, the Bar Transfer Test (BTT). Examiners will demonstrate integrity, impartiality and independence, will need to be competent in the allocated subject areas and be familiar with quality assurance practices established in UK Higher Education.

Examiners work in pairs and will need to jointly produce interim and final reports in February and August 2020. This appointment is for the 2019-20 academic year only.
