Workshop: CPD 2017 - Preparing for a new regime

On 4 October we will be running a workshop in London to help you prepare for the new CPD regime for barristers to be implemented on 1 January 2017.

The workshops are designed to give you a head start with regard to your CPD planning for 2017. The session will include a short presentation on the rule changes and guidance on how to plan your CPD under the new rules. The workshop will also feature an 'ask the regulator' section where we can answer any questions you may have on CPD and our other regulatory activities.

The workshop will begin at 5.30pm. The session will conclude at 7.30pm. The event is located at our offices at Bar Standards Board 289-293 High Holborn WC1V 7HZ.

The workshop has been accredited with 1.5 CPD hours.

To register your interest or to find out more please email contactus@barstandardsboard.org.uk stating the workshop you would like to attend and any dietary and/or accessibility requirements by 30 September.

How is CPD changing?

  • You will no longer have to complete a minimum number of hours;
  • You now have individual responsibility for what training you require;
  • There is no longer a requirement to complete accredited hours;
  • You have increased flexibility in the types of CPD activities that you can complete;
  • We will assess whether you have planned and completed your CPD in a structured way;
  • Assessments of current CPD compliance will be made by taking into account your CPD activity in previous years; and
  • The role of our supervision team in setting Corrective Action for non-compliance has been formalised. This means that the focus on the regulation of CPD will not be on disciplinary action but on ensuring that you comply with the CPD requirements.

You can find out more about the new CPD regime by visiting our website.
