Notify us soon as possible so that we can update your pupillage record with the correct dates and names to reflect the changes.
You must submit a copy of the non-practising pupillage form to us at the end of your non-practising period of pupillage (first six months), even if your second six months of pupillage will also be non-practising (typically, this is the case for pupillages in Chancery or tax law).
We will process completed forms within 10 working days of receiving them and update the pupillage record in our CRM system. We will then issue a Provisional Practising Certificate.
Yes, you can transfer your pupillage. Your former AETO must provide copies of your training records to the new AETO, so that an appropriate training plan can be developed.
Your new pupillage provider may need to submit a Pupillage Funding, Recruitment and Advertising waiver to recruit and advertise outside of the pupillage gateway timetable.
Please note that you will need to identify a new pupillage provider AETO yourself, or with the assistance of your Inn or Circuit as the BSB cannot assist you in finding a new pupillage provider.
Stop carrying out any reserved legal activity immediately and contact the Authorisations Team: they will be able to confirm receipt of your form and advise you of any delays. You can also check our authorisations service updates page.
Your Provisional Practising Certificate (PPC) is only valid for one month after your completion date and you must apply for your practising certificate before your PPC expires. If you don’t obtain a practising certificate, when your PPC expires you will become an “unregistered barrister”.
