Joseph Sykes, between 8th March 2001 and 1 August 2001, took instructions directly from a lay client, Mr Damarasingh, and supplied services to him in breach of 401(a) and (b)(I) and (ii) and 901 of the Code of Conduct of the Bar of England and Wales.

Charge 2

Joseph Sykes, on or around 1St August 2001, contacted a lay client, Mr Damarasingh directly and demanded payment from him of the sum of ?500 to cover legal costs, in breach of paragraphs 301(a)(i) and/or (iii) of the Code of Conduct of the Bar of England and Wales.

Charge 3

Joseph Sykes, between 8th March 2001 and 1st August 2001, engaged in conduct, set out in the above two charges, which was likely to diminish public confidence in the legal profession or the administration of justice, or otherwise bring the legal profession into disrepute, in breach of paragraphs 301 (a)(iii), 307 (a) (d) and/or (f) and/or 901 of the Code of Conduct of the Bar of England and Wales.
