Offence details:

Mr Mian, a barrister, between 30 June 2017 and 19 November 2019, acted in a manner which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession and/or could reasonably be seen by the public to undermine his integrity, in that he failed to disclose to clients, investing in proposed development projects, that he and his law firm, M-R Solicitors LLP, had a relevant connection to and/or interest in businesses involved in the development projects and thereby allowed M-R Solicitors LLP to represent clients in circumstances where he knew, or ought to have known, there was, or was a significant risk of, a conflict of interest.

Mr Mian, a barrister, between 30 June 2017 and 19 November 2019, acted in a manner which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession and/or could reasonably be seen by the public to undermine his integrity, in that he failed to adequately advise clients involved in the development projects of the risks inherent in such investment schemes and failed to ensure clients fully understood those risks.

Mr Mian, a barrister, between 30 June 2017 and 19 November 2019, acted in a manner which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession and/or could reasonably be seen by the public to undermine his integrity in that, he failed to ensure clients were informed about issues relating to obtaining planning permission for the proposed development projects, prior to releasing client funds to the property development company, Aronex Developments Limited.

Mr Mian, a barrister, between 30 June 2017 and 19 November 2019, acted in a manner which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession in that he failed to provide any and/or adequate supervision to a junior staff member of M-R Solicitors LLP who was representing clients in relation to the proposed development projects.

Sanction:
The BSB was ordered not to issue Mr Mian with a practising certificate for 9 months.
