Applications - Authorisations, Exemptions, Waivers and Reviews

Contact:  authorisations@barstandardsboard.org.uk

The application forms and guidelines documents listed below relate to issues considered by the Bar Standards Board.

Applications must be made in writing on the correct application form, and there is a fee payable for each application.

An applicant must ensure that they have submitted all necessary supporting evidence with the application form, as any failure to do so may result in delays in dealing with the application. In cases of refusal to provide such evidence, the Bar Standards Board reserves the right to reject such applications.

In every case, the Bar Standards Board has the power to request further information or documentation be supplied in support of an application, but it is the primary responsibility of the applicant to provide all relevant information and supporting evidence, rather than the task of the Bar Standards Board to ask for it.

All applications and supporting documentation will be provided with the strictest confidence.

The application process takes between six to eight weeks, after all required information and fees are received. We aim to deal with all review applications within 10 weeks of receipt.
