BSB appoints new pool of Authorisation Review Panel members and an advisory expert

26 September 2017

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has today announced eight appointments to its pool of Authorisations Review panellists and one to its Advisory Pool of Experts (APEX).

The Authorisations Review Panel meets as a panel of three members taken from a group of appointed panellists. The panel considers applications for review of decisions taken by the BSB on authorisation to practise as barristers, relating to entity regulation or waivers from certain requirements of the BSB Handbook, the rulebook that contains the rules of practice and training requirements for barristers. The pool of appointed panellists consists of five lay members and three barristers. Panels consist of at least two lay members and at least one barrister.

Short biographies of the eight members of the Panel are contained here on the BSB website.

The regulator is also pleased to announce today the appointment of Emma Wood to join APEX. Emma has a wide variety of expertise, particularly about the qualifying law degree, EU law and equality legislation.

About the Authorisation Review Panel

The Authorisations Review Panel was created as part of the BSB's governance restructure following the abolition of the Qualifications Committee. The Panel ensures that all requests to review decisions on authorisation to practise as barristers or waivers from certain requirements of the BSB Handbook are determined fairly, effectively and efficiently and in accordance with the relevant regulations and guidelines.
