BSB updates policy on the publication of disciplinary findings against barristers

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) last night decided to update its policy on the publication of disciplinary findings for professional misconduct. The policy will in future extend to all avenues by which the BSB puts disciplinary findings into the public domain and the lengths of time for which such findings are made publicly available have also been revised.

BSB offers first conditional authorisation to a vocational training provider

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has announced that it intends to authorise the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) as an Authorised Education and Training Organisation (AETO) for the provision of vocational training for the Bar, subject to certain conditions.  A number of other potential training providers are also in the process of seeking authorisation so the BSB hopes that there will be lots of choice available when new courses begin in 2020.

The BSB has today published the fifth annual edition of its statistical information on student performance on the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). As has previously been the case, this year's report shows that training for the Bar remains highly competitive.

Barrister David Farley ordered to be suspended

Barrister David Farley has been ordered to be suspended from practice by an independent disciplinary tribunal following three charges of professional misconduct brought by the Bar Standards Board (BSB). The Tribunal ordered that Mr Farley be suspended for a period of two months starting on 22 July 2019, subject to any appeal.
