BSB statement on QASA notification scheme

The Bar Standards Board, the lead regulator for courtroom advocates in England and Wales, can confirm that barristers will not be required to comply with a notification process prior to the launch of the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA). The Bar Standards Board will instead focus its resources on the registration process due to begin in January 2013.

The Bar Standards Board, Solicitors Regulation Authority and ILEX Professional Standards, will shortly be launching a fourth consultation on the final proposals for the quality assurance scheme, which will encompass the 6,000 criminal barristers the BSB regulates. This draft consultation together with provisional QASA Handbook and draft QASA Rules will be submitted to the Board at its meeting on 21 June 2012 with the Scheme due to launch in January 2013
