How to apply for the Academic Stage
Information on how to apply for a Law Degree or CPE/GDL
QLD (Qualifying Law Degree):
A full list of institutions offering Qualifying Law Degrees is available in the Forms and Guidance page of this section. The various types of Qualifying Law Degree are described in the Academic Stage Book, which is also available from the Forms and Guidance page.
Entrance requirements for full time undergraduate Qualifying Law Degrees differ from University to University or College to College. For full details students should apply to: The Universities and Colleges Admission Services (UCAS), PO Box 28, Cheltenham, GL52 3LZ.
For admission to a part-time undergraduate Law Degree course or a Senior Status Law Degree for Graduates, students should apply direct to the University or College of Higher Education offering the course.
CPE/GDL:
The CPE is also known as the Graduate Diploma in Law, this is a Postgraduate Course which Non-Law Graduates may undertake in order to be eligible to apply for the Vocational Stage of Training on the same basis as a student with a Qualifying Law Degree.
There are a number of Institutions validated by the Joint Academic Stage Board to run courses. A list of CPE/GDL Providers is available from the Forms and Guidance page in this section.
Applications for full-time courses are made through a central application system run by The Central Applications Board (PO Box 84, Guildford, GU3 1YX - Tel: 01483 451 080).
Applications for part-time and distance learning courses should be made directly to the Institution concerned.
