Terms of Reference

In order to define the status of the JASB, a formal agreement was drawn up. At the same time as clarifying guidance for the provision of qualifying law degrees, the JASB Agreement has also been subject to revision, in 2008, including membership and terms of reference of the Board itself.

Joint Statement

The present Joint Statement was first issued in 1999 by the Law Society and the General Council of the Bar on the completion of the initial stage of training by obtaining an undergraduate degree, specifically a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD). There is also a supplement covering CPE/GDL programmes and Senior Status Degrees. The Joint announcement sets out the conditions which must be satisfied in respect of the provision of undergraduate degree courses that are regarded as satisfying the academic stage of training.
